Abstract

An electrical time sorting pitfall trap was developed and tested under field conditions as a part of a research project about the community ecology of insects ans spiders on dry chalk grassland. It is used to study the daily activity patterns of ground living arthropods. The trap works with solar energy and can be left out in the field for months without any service. The exposition times for each of the trapping bottles can be choosen individually. Up to nine different trapping bottles can be used in one trap.
