Abstract

Near the end of the oviposition period of Pterostichus vulgaris and Harpalus rufipes and after it, more of these insects are caught in formalin traps than in water traps. It appears that formalin has an alluring effect, especially on the females. In the ground traps with formalin the females predominated, while in the ground traps with water the males did. As the sexual index is worked out on the basis of the trap catches, this fact and the necessity of further studies in this field are pointed out.
