Abstract

In the remaining part of a wood in a river-valley, the nature preserve "Burgholz" near Halle/Aaale, ecological studies on the Carabids were made. The evaluation was based on approximately 30.000 individuals of more than 100 species. They were trapped in six places. Observations are made on the relations of the Carabids to the vegetations, to humidity and light, to abundance and presence, to population dynamics and to phenology. Typical of the "Burgholz" river-valley wood is the genus Pterostichus, together with the genus Carabus or the genus Agonum. For the association group Fraxino-Ulmetum the Carabid assosiation "Carabus granulatus - Agonum assimile" was established.
