Abstract

This paper gives a survey of the development of the library of the former Deutsches Entomologisches Institut from its origin (in 1870) to the present. Some phases are discussed in detail, the principles of acquisition are explained, and the growth of the collection is described. As the guiding library for the entire entomological literature in the GDR, this library has special functions which are defined here.
