Skeleto-muscular mechanism of the cephalo-pharyngeal skeleton of the mature larva of the melon fly, Dacus (Strumeta) cucurbitae Coquillett (Diptera: Trypetidae).

Abstract

A detailed study has been made of the tracheal system of the mature, third instar, larva of the melon fly, Dacus (S.) cucurbitae Coquillett. Comparsion has been made with the tracheal system of other cyclorrhaphours larvae to bring out the underlying homologies and to provide an understanding of the basic pattern of organization.
