Abstract

The fourth contribution concerning the weevils of the GDR covers the subfamilies Brachycerinae, Otiorhynchinae and Brachyderinae. Of the genus Otiorhynchus, which in Central Europe comprises about 120 species, only 28 species were found in the GDR, while the other genera are presented by all Central European species. This paper thus deals with 33 genera and 200 species, of which 23 genera and 125 species occur on the territory of the GDR. Each of the Central European species is discussed under the following aspects: host plants, mode of life, general distribution, occurrence in Central Europe, and for agricultural or forest pests, economic significance. For the species occurring in the GDR the distribution in the 15 districts of the republic is given. These data were derived from the study of publications, evaluation of the most important collections and by excursions made especially to the faunistically less explored districts of the GDR.
