Abstract

Red Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) appeared in pea fields in the district of Magdeburg. The typical forms of A. pisum that attack pea, however, are green-coloured. They are characterized by winged male and wiged gynoparae. These aphids are thus able to change their host, passing from the annual pea to perennial fabaceae. For these aphids living on peas and having winged male and winged gynopares the name Acyrthosiphon pisum ssp. destructor (Johnson, 1900) is available. Most forms use Vicia villosa and other perennial species of Vicia as their winter hosts. Another form can also settle on Trifolium pratense and successfully hibernate on this plant in its egg stage. ...
