Abstract

On the basis of the author´s observations and of publications a survey is given of the population by insects of Oenothera biennis Linnaeus. Only one species could be established as imported from North America. The other phytophagous species are autochthonous in Central Europe. Main host of these phytophagous species is Epilobium or these species are markedly polyphagous. In connection with the discussion of the significance of entomophages as clues to the origin of plants it is suggested that Oenothera biennis must be an imported species.
