Abstract

Termitidae are known in the Oriental zoogeographical region by 527 species under 57 genera of the subfamilies Apicoterminae (4 genera, 29 species), Termitinae (24 genera, 166 species), Macrotermitinae (6 genera, 131 species) and Nasutitermitinae (23 genera, 201 species). The distribution of the oriental genera in different parts of the region and their zoogeography and origin in the light of Wegeners Hypothesis of Continental Drift, have been discussed. Distribution pattern of the number of species of the genera, found also in other zoogeographical regions, is given in table 1. Distributional maps, showing the genetic distribution in the Oriental region, are provided.
