Abstract

The occurrence of the leaf beetle Diabrotica balteata Lec. in bean fields (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is characterized by immigration and dying and the hatching of a new generation. These processes are closely related to the age of the plant (days after seeding) and the temperature (sum < 9°C). Regardless of the period of cultivation the immigration starts shortly after the sprouting of the bean plants (13th day after seeding). The density of population reaches its maximum at the age of the plants of 32 ±3,5 days. Hatching starts when the temperature sum reaches 800 ± 58 diurnal degrees.
