Abstract

The third larval stages of Cheilosia gigantea (Zetterstedt, 1838), Cheilosia latifrons (Zetterstedt, 1843), Cheilosia pubera (Zetterstedt, 1838) and Cheilosia vulpina (Meigen, 1822) are described and observations of the biology of the larvae are given. Based on these results the phylogenetic affiliations of the species within the genus Cheilosia are discussed.
