Abstract

1. The paper contains a systematic description of the Collembolan fauna of Slovakian caverns. All the materials comes from 15 different caverns of Slovakia, including the characteristic grots of this areal: 2 caverns of Béla Tatra, 6 caverns of Lower Tatra, and 7 caverns of Slovakian Karst. - 2. The 12 species recorded until now do not include endemism. According to our insufficient knowledge of geographic distribution of some species of Collembola it may be left undecided, if the areal-disjunctions (Tomocerus terrestrialis, Pseudosinella cavernarum) supposed on account of new records from Slovakian caverns, really exist. - 3. The particular microflora generally present in Karst caverns must not only be understood as an important food for the Collembolan fauna. At times certain cave lower fungi become parasites of Collembola, such as Onychiurus pseudinermis, Folsomia candida.
