Abstract

In 1812 August Ahrens published at Halle the first number (Fase.) of his Fauna Insectorum Europae, which was to represent a supplement to PANZERS Faunae Insectorum Germanicae Initia, to which ist was very similar as to its size and get-up. Already beginning with fascicle 3 the well known Oberbergrat Prof. Ernst Friedrich Germar took charge of the editorial management. Up to 1847 there were published 24 fascicles, frequently at intervals of several years. In the courae of years the author had finally conceived, that in such a way the realisation of his project, an illustration of the insect fauna of Europa, was impossible. So the work was finished with Fase. XXIV. A general index of the insects described there being not yet published the author of this paper has done so in addition to the description of the work under discussion.
