Abstract

The above paper deals with Thysanoptera on lucerne, which has proved very suitable for investigations on the thysanopterous fauna of cultivated plants. Results on this subject as given by Lehmann (1937), Oettingen (1952), and Boness (1958) are evaluated in this study. Data on population dynamics received during the vegetation periods of 1959 and 1960 showed similar spectra of species, except (for geographic reasons) Odontothrips confusus, Limothrips cerealium, and Thrips fuscipennis. There were found 31 species (9 of which must be regarded as strayers). In 158 captures containing Thysanoptera 3681 (1959) and 4422 (1960) specimens were determined. In large numbers only few species appeared: Aeolothrips intermedius, Frankliniella intonsa, and Stenothrips graminum. As a general aspect the number of species living in flowers decreased with the age of lucerne, while grass dwelling species increased.
