Zur Kenntnis der Populationsdynamik und des Migrationsverhaltens von Vanessa atalanta L. im paläarktischen Raum (Lepidoptera).

Abstract

There is studied the biological significance of the migrations of Vanessa atalanta L. based upon investigations over several years on populations in different parts of the mediterranean area and the Rhineland as like as by means of marking experiments with rhenish autumnal butterflies. There are no reasons to suppose the rhenish autumn populations consisting of descentants of mediterranean immigrants, but it is probable, on the other hand, that the migrations of the autumnal butterflies have only "local" significance. So it must be suspected that Vanessa atalanta in Central Europe hibernates as a rule.
