Abstract

There are discussed the results of the author's experiments on the migration habits of Aglais urticae L. in Western Germany (Rhine) between 1956 and 1961 with about 23000 marked specimens. The author concludes relations between migration impulse and diapause, whereas climate factors are - though important - not conditions which induce migrations. The direction of migration is determined by airstreams. So Aglais urticae is not one of those migratory insects which need orientation of space to keep their direction of migration constant.
