Abstract

The larva of Hedyphanes seidlitzi Reitt. dwells in soil of semideserts at the depth of ca. 40 cm. It is of a typical Helopini aspect but is easily to be discriminated from other genera of this tribus already known in larval stage. The larva of Hedyphanes differs from Helops and Probaticus by the absence of sclerotified processi on the eight abdominal tergite and from Cylindronotus and Zophohelops by lacking small subcylindrical or subconical tubercles at the base of long clawlike processi on the ninth abdominal segment. According to the morphological features of larva the genus Hedyphanes is closer to the "Cylindronotus-group" than to "Helops-group" being in some respects intermediate. The detailed description of Hedyphanes seidlitzi larva and the key to the known larvae of genera of palearctic Helopini are given.
