Abstract

The linear mine type of the "Zwiebelminierfliege" (Phytobia cepae Her.) may attack and injure leek (Allium porrum), which is laid out in late summer. The adults emerging in August, belong to a second generation. Emerging is induced by moisture after the level of soil moisture has increased on account of more frequent rain in August. Increase of soil moisture plays a part also in emerging of the adults of the first generation for which the quantity of rain during May or June is deciding. The conditions under which the diapause of the puparium stages of the first generation is discontinued remains still unknown.
