Abstract

The above paper describes the position, the macroscopic shape, and the results of a histo-logical study of the poison organ of Formica nigricans Emery. The pillow is supposed to operate as a gland. There are suggested further investigations by means of an electron microscope in order to elucidate the way of the secrete liquid into the small tubes of the pillow. A globe layer as described by Forel ("Kugelschicht") could not be found in the accessory gland. There are mentioned numerous problems remaining still unsolved.
