Induced by the centenary caesura between Hagen's "Bibliotheca entomologica" and the "Index Litteraturae Entomologieae, Serie II" the author reflects on the causes of this interruption. There is given a general view on bibliographies important to entomologists, on the total number of entomological publications up to date and its increase by the end of the 20th century, and notes on the special character of scientific work in entomology which highly complicates documentation. As an example of a possible collaboration history and work of the "Concilium bibliographicum" are discussed.
