This paper sums up the most important results of the first phase (1961 to 1965) of the evaluation of the expedition to Albania made by Deutsches Entomologisches Institut from May 9th to August 16th, 1961. This expedition yielded about 42000 insects of almost all orders. In the period covered by this report, 59 papers totalling about 1000 printed pages were prepared and published in Beitr. Ent., vol. 12 (1962) to 16 (1966). They represent the scientific study of 6448 specimens or 15,4 per cent of the total yield; by December 31st, 1965 another part of the yield, 10837 specimens or 25,9 per cent, had been distributed to specialists for determination and evaluation. Of the 1132 species examined so far, 471 or 42 per cent were new in the fauna of Albania, 22 species or 2 per cent were new in the Balkan peninsula, and 11 species or I per cent were new in Europe. 9 species, 6 subspecies and 3 aberrations were absolutely new. The second phase.of the evaluation is scheduled for 1966 to 1970. Its papers will be numbered from 61, and publication starts with the present issue.
