Abstract

It is shown that the pattern of bristles on the head capsule of larvae of the monotrysic forms of Lepidoptera has no pattern elements essentially different from tat of the Ditrysia. The assumption made by Hinton (1946) that a bristles G2 occurs in the monotrysic forms but is absent in the Ditrysia was not confirmed by the sufficiently certain proof of the homology of this bristle with the bristle O3 of the Ditysia. This involves partly extensive corrections in the nomenclature of the pattern elements of the head capsules of Adelidae, Incurvariidae and Hepialidae, which are given here. Finally the cranial bristle patterns of the Eriocraniidae and Tischeriidae are described which were derived from more comprehensive material.
