Abstract

The 100th birthday of Walther Horn is the occasion for outline of his life, work and character. His scientific achievements are pointed out, and the important part he played in the history of the former Deutsches Entomologisches Institut is appreciated. It is shown that Horn tried to reform entomological systematics and to bring it into a closer connection with applied entomology and other branches of zoology.
