Abstract

The distributive behaviour of Anopheles messeae messeae Fallén and Anopheles claviger Meigen in buildings of livestock of different types and with different kinds and numbers of animals is discussed. It appears not to be perceptibly influenced by climatic factors (temperature, air humidity) or by the light intensity conditions in the parts of the rooms frequented by the midges. The results indicate that the ranges of values of all these factors in the buildings for livestock are within the limits of tolerance of both species. It seems, however, that the distributive behaviour is influenced by the degree of stability of the micro-climate, which is more or less unstable especially where parts of the room are hit by stronger currents of air. The studies always showed the greatest density of Anopheles in places with balanced micro-climatic conditions. The practical significance of these results is explained at examples.
